You can make a dark room on your island big enough for mobs to spawn in, and you can get in there and kill them by yourself. Or you can wait a while longer until I will implement permanent effects.

when perm effects are released will the books stop spawning?
cuz that would make the perm effects more useful otherwise people will just save USD and use books instead

They will not stop spawning, but their drop rate will be lowered. As you have noticed, the drop rate is very high right now to basically let everyone enjoy them, even if they don’t have a lot of time to play and farm the books. Soon they will be rare drops, and more effects will be added.

Now that I realised how good they are, I’m saving them up no matter what crappy effects they are!
            Mwahahaha…

So when you update these will the effect books we currently have become permanent effects or will they still be temporary effects?

Heat, I think you should rename ‘PINK_SPARKS’. I tried it and they weren’t even pink 😛 Maybe you should name them ‘SKIN_SPARKS’ XD ok no…

Hai, heat! These books, how much do you reckon they’d go for when the permanent effect thingy is added? I’m saving them ALL and I think I can make some decent money from it. *mwahaha*

Effects are something unique to this server, that surround your character in game and are visible to other players close to you. Think of them like a visual aura or something like that. Just ask around in game and other players will show you how they look on them.

Basically, they make particle effects appear about 0-3 blocks away from you. Nothing too complex at all. (In Minecraft 1.8 there will be a way to do this in vanilla very easily with command blocks.)

The tricky part is displaying these smoothly as players move around and not lag the server with 100+ players with effects at the same time 🙂
